Biography:

Ed Pastor was born in Claypool, Ariz. and resides in Phoenix. He received a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Arizona State University in 1966 and a law degree from there in 1974.

A former chemistry teacher, Pastor was on the staff of Gov. Raul Castro. He was the Deputy Director of Guadalupe Organization, Inc. He was a member of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, 1977-91.

Pastor was elected to the U.S. House in 1991 and re-elected in 1992, 1994, 1996, 1998 and 2000.

Pastor and his wife, Verma, have two children.


Past Campaigns:

Ed Pastor was elected to the U.S. House in an October 1991 special election. He was re-elected in 1992 with 70 percent of the vote, defeating Republican Don Shooter. He was re-elected in 1994 with 62 percent of the vote, defeating Republican Robert MacDonald.

In 1996, he was re-elected with 65 percent of the vote, defeating Republican Jim Buster. He won re-election in 1998 defeating Republican Ed Barron with 67 percent of the vote. He faced re-election in 2000, against Republican candidate Bill Barenholtz of Yuma, Ariz., and won with 69 percent.

In 2002, he defeated Republican candidate Jonathan Barnert of Phoenix for re-election, winning 67 percent of the vote.
