Nancy Pelosi was first elected to the U.S. House in a special election in June 1987 with 62 percent of the vote, defeating Republican Harriet Ross. Pelosi won re-election in 1990, defeating Republican Alan Nichols with 78 percent of the vote. In 1992, she defeated Republican Marc Wolin with 83 percent of the vote.
She defeated Republican Elsa Cheung in 1994 with 82 percent of the vote. In 1996, she defeated Republican Justin Raimondo with 85 percent of the vote.
Pelosi was elected again in 1998, defeating Republican David Martz with 86 percent of the vote. Pelosi again won in a landslide in 2000 with 85 percent over republican Adam Sparks.
She was re-elected in 2002, defeating Republican G. German with 80 percent of the vote.
