Biography:

Mike Pence was born in Columbus, Ind., and now resides in Edinburgh, Ind. He earned his undergraduate degree from Hanover College in 1981 and graduated from Indiana University's School of Law in 1986.

From 1991 to 1993, Pence served as president of the Indiana Policy Review, a conservative think tank based in Fort Wayne, Ind. In 1992, he began pursuing a career in radio broadcasting with "The Mike Pence Show" and by 1994, the show was syndicated statewide. He has hosted such guests as Bob Dole, Dan Quayle, Indiana Sen. Dick Lugar and former Sen. Dan Coats.

Pence was the Republican nominee in the 2nd District in 1988 and 1990, losing both times to Democrat Phil Sharp.

Pence and his wife, Karen, have three children. When Congress is in session, the family resides in Arlington, Virginia.

Mike Pence was the 2nd District Republican nominee in 1988 and 1990, losing both times to Democrat Phil Sharp.

In May 2000, he won the nomination to replace outgoing Republican Rep. David McIntosh, who did not seek re-election so he could run for governor. Pence won the primary with 44 percent of the vote in a six-candidate field, taking seven of the 11 counties in the district. He was elected in 2000 with 51 percent of the vote. Democrat Robert Rock got 38 percent of the vote and Independent Bill Frazier had 9 percent.

He was re-elected in 2002, winning 64 percent of the vote against Democrat Melina Fox of Greensburg,
