Biography:

Earl Pomeroy is a native of Valley City, where he attended high school. He received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks.

He was an attorney in Valley City for five years before he was elected as North Dakota's insurance commissioner in 1984. He served eight years in the job, and was elected to the U.S. House in 1992.

He has two children and was recently divorced from his wife, Laurie Kirby.


Past Campaigns:

Earl Pomeroy was elected to the North Dakota House, 1980 and 1982. He was elected state insurance commissioner, 1984 and 1988.

He was elected to the U.S. House in 1992 and re-elected in 1994, 1996, 1998 and 2000.

He defeated Rick Clayburgh 52 percent to 48 percent in 2002 for another term.
