Biography:

Sharon Renier was born in Detroit and now lives in Munith, Mich., a Jackson County town that is near the southern border of Ingham County.

She has run Mirror Pond Organic Farm since 2000 and also has worked as a paralegal, including a stint as an assistant to feminist legal scholar Catharine MacKinnon.

She earned an associate's degree in liberal arts from Oakland Community College in 1989 and also has completed course work toward a degree in natural resources at the University of Michigan.

She is single and has one son.


Past Campaigns:

Sharon Renier has run for office once before, an unsuccessful campaign for the state House in 2002.

In this year's Democratic primary, Renier won with 51 percent of the vote. Drew Walker, a government consultant from Battle Creek, had 24 percent and Douglas Wilson, a paramedic from Oxford, had 23 percent.
