Biography:

Lico Reyes was born in Canatlan, Mexico and moved to Ciudad Juarez when he was five. He attended parochial schools in El Paso, spit shining soldiers' boots in bars and restaurants to raise money after class.

After graduating from high school, Reyes enrolled in a Louisiana seminary to become a Jesuit priest. He left the seminary when he realized he wanted to be an actor or an engineer, and he graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a bachelor's degree in math.

Reyes has acted in dozens of local commercials and had small roles in a few movies and television shows, including "Walker, Texas Ranger."

He founded Parties Portable, a disc jockey service, in 1970 and continues to run it today. He also has worked as a civil engineer for the state highway department and as a computer programmer.

Reyes has gained local fame by unsuccessfully campaigning for Arlington city office 13 times. Until this year, he had run for mayor or city council every year since 1993.

Reyes is a civil rights activist who volunteers with many community groups, including the League of United Latin American Citizens. He won the civil rights organization's national Aztec Award for Civil Rights in 2001 and was named its Texas Man of the Year the same year.

Reyes is divorced and has two grown children.
