Biography:

Mark Risley was born in Fontana, Calif., and grew up in Salinas. He has lived his entire life in the Monterey peninsula and now resides in Pacific Grove.

Risley attended Biola University in Los Angeles, Calif. and studied music. He then attended umpire training school for National League baseball and has worked part-time as an umpire for 25 years, including a brief stint in pro baseball. He went into the retail business and worked with Macy's from 1987-1994.

Risley opened Peninsula Sports, Inc., in 1994. The business provides umpires and sports officials for after-school programs.

Risley is married to his high school sweetheart, Jan. They reunited at a 2001 class reunion and were married soon thereafter. He has two children from a previous marriage.
