Biography:
Born in Peekskill, N.Y. on April 5, 1952, Dave Ross grew up in the suburbs north of New York City. The son of a commercial art director and a homemaker, he is the oldest of four siblings.
He went to college at Cornell University, graduating with a bachelor's degree in English in 1973, the same year he married his wife, Patti. His radio career started in high school, when he worked as a substitute newscaster at WVIP in Peekskill.
He worked as a news director and news caster at WTKO in Ithaca, N.Y., while in college, then moved to Atlanta to work as a reporter and news producer at WSB.
He made his way to the Seattle area in 1977, when KIRO Radio offered him a job to be an afternoon news broadcaster. He got his own morning talk show in 1992, quickly developing a reputation as a sharp-witted straight talker.
The chairman of Washington state's Democratic Party recruited him into the race for the 8th District seat of retiring U.S. Rep. Jennifer Dunn, R-Wash., saying Democrats needed a candidate with enough star power to challenge a popular county sheriff who grabbed national headlines for helping to catch the Green River serial killer.
Ross lives with his wife, a substitute librarian, on Mercer Island west of Seattle. They have two daughters.
