Biography:

Steven R. Rothman was born in Englewood, N.J., and resides in Fair Lawn, N.J. He received a bachelor's degree from Syracuse University in 1974 and a law degree from the Washington University Law School in 1977. Rothman then practiced law.

He served as the mayor of Englewood from 1983 to 1989, and as a Bergen County Surrogate Court Judge from 1993 to 1996.

Rothman was first elected to the U.S. House in 1996.

He is divorced with two children.


Past Campaigns:

Steve Rothman was elected to the U.S. House in 1996, defeating Republican Kathleen A. Donovan with 56 percent of the vote.

He was re-elected in 1998, defeating Republican Steven Lonegan with 65 percent of the vote. In 2000, Rotham was re-elected with 68 percent of the vote.

He was re-elected in 2002 with 70 percent of the vote.

Rothman served as mayor of Englewood, N.J. from 1983 to 1989.
