Biography:
David Sanders was born in New Jersey and received a bachelor's degree in biochemistry and biophysics from Yale University.
He earned a masters and PhD at the University of California at Berkeley, then conducted research at the University of California at San Francisco and the Whitehead Institute, which is affiliated with MIT, before moving to Indiana in 1995 and joining Purdue University, where he is an associate professor of biological sciences.
He and his wife, Miriam, have three boys, all attending public schools in West Lafayette.

David Sanders won the Democratic nomination for the 4th District by defeating Bill Abbot. His only previous run for office was in 2002, when he lost a run for state Senate District 22 by a nearly 2-1 margin to Republican Sen. Ron Alting.
