Biography:
Randy Shafer was born in Detroit on Jan. 26, 1964. He served in the U.S. Army from 1982 to 2002, when he retired.
He lived in Japan, South Korea and a number of U.S. states while in the Army. He earned an associate's degree in management from Excelsior College.
He now lives in St. Clair Shores, Mich., with his wife and three children.
