Biography:
Bert Smith was born in Oklahoma City and he and his wife, Carol, have lived in Oklahoma City for 16 years.
Smith received a bachelor's degree from Oklahoma State University in agricultural economics and an and MBA in finance from Oklahoma City University. He is a math teacher in Oklahoma City public schools.
Smith and his father owned and managed a farm supply store and grain elevator in western Oklahoma. Smith also worked as an agricultural credit administrator for the former First National Bank in Oklahoma City, now the Bank of America.
Smith retired from the U.S. Army Reserve as a lieutenant colonel in 1997 after 28 years. From 1971 to 1972, Smith served in combat in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot, lift section leader and assistant combat intelligence officer with the 3/17 Air Cavalry Squadron. He was an honor graduate in his Infantry Officer Basic Class, served five years with the 95th Manuever Training Command, graduated from the Army's Command and General Staff College and served 10 years as an admissions field representative for the United States Military Academy.
