Biography:
Rhett Smith was born in Ranger, Texas and grew up in Eastland, in West Texas.
He graduated from Eastland High School in 1968 and earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Texas at Austin in 1973. He is an accountant and auditor, who worked for the Texas Department of Human Services from 1973 to 1977.
In 1979, he joined the U.S. Navy. He served until 1983, when he began doing private security for business services company Initial-Rentokil, USA. He has been involved with the Bexar County Democratic Party, but has never run for public office before.
Smith has two children and a 4-year-old granddaughter.
