Biography:

John Swallow was raised in St. George, Utah,and spent his teenage years on his family's alfalfa farm on the Utah-Nevada border.

Swallow received a bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University in 1987 and a law degree from BYU Law School in 1990.

Following law school, John and Suzanne moved to Sandy, Utah, where they have lived for12 years. Swallow practiced law at the Salt Lake City law firm of Scalley & Reading.

He left to take a position as general counsel for a dietary supplement company in Provo, then went on to found On International,a startup lighting and electro luminescence provider, in 2002.

Swallow was a state representative from 1996 to 2002, when he left to challenge Rep. Jim Matheson, D-Utah, losing by just 1,641 votes.

He and his wife, Suzanne, have four daughters and a son.

This is John Swallow's second run for Congress. He lost a 2002 challenge to Rep. Jim Matheson, D-Utah, losing by just 1,641 votes.

He was first elected to the Utah House in 1996, where he served three terms.
