Biography:

Stan Thompson was born in Red Oak, Iowa, and attended Red Oak Community High School. He was the first in his family to attend college. He graduated from Iowa State University with a bachelor's degree in political science.

He met his wife Nancy in college and they married in 1983. They lived in Washington D.C. until he earned his law degree from George Washington University.

Thompson is on the Board of Directors for The Homestead, which serves Iowans with autism. he also has ties to higher education as Chair of the Iowa State University Alumni Association.

Thompson is challenging Rep. Leonard Boswell, Iowa's lone Democratic representative in the U.S. House, for a second time. Boswell defeated Thompson in 2002.

Thompson clerked for a judge at the Iowa Court of Appeals and then joined a law firm, where he is now a shareholder and a leading lawyer. He and his wife have four sons.
