Biography:

Mark E. Udall was born in Tuscon, Ariz., and resides in Boulder, Colo. He graduated from Canyon Del Oro, in Tuscon, in 1968. He received a bachelor's degree in American Civilization from Williams College in 1972.

He was executive director of Colorado Outward Bound School from 1985 to 1995. He is a veteran of more than two dozen worldwide mountain expeditions, and is an accomplished photographer, skier, kayaker, golfer and runner.

He was elected to the Colorado House in 1996. In 1998, he was first elected to the U.S. House.

Udall is the son of former U.S. Rep. Morris Udall, who was part of Arizona's Congressional delegation and was a candidate for president in 1976.

Mark Udall and his wife, Maggie Fox, who is an attorney, have two children, Jed and Tess.

Past Campaigns:

Mark Udall was elected to the Colorado House in 1996. He was elected to the U.S. House in 1998, defeating Republican Bob Greenlee with 50 percent of the vote to capture the seat vacated by the retirement of 12-year Democratic Rep. David Skaggs. He won re-election in 2000 with 55 percent of the vote.

He was re-elected in 2002 with 60 percent of the vote. He had only a token challenge in 2004 from Republican Stephen Hackman in the general election.
