Biography:

William "Willie" Vaden, 56, has served as the mayor of Ingleside, Texas near Corpus Christi since 2000. After dropping out of high school and later college, Vaden went on to build a successful cargo business.

As a Marine, he served two years in Vietnam. He later worked for Texaco before becoming involved in the cargo surveying business.

Vaden, who says he grew up poor and has since built a million dollar business, also worked in the petrochemical construction business before opening his own business called VIP Cargo Surveys Inc. in 1987.

He was first elected to office in 1999. He served as a city councilman for a year in Ingleside before he was elected mayor. Vaden continues to operate his cargo business.

He is married with four children.

William Vaden was elected to Ingleside's city council in 1999. He spent a year as a city councilman before being elected mayor in 2000.

"You can't make a wave until you make a ripple and I'd like to be the guy to make a ripple," he said.
