Biography:

Greg Walden was born in The Dalles, Ore., and lives in nearby Hood River. He filled in on-air at the family radio station in Hood River at age 15 and made radio a staple of his business career. He now owns four radio stations.

After serving in the state House and Senate, Walden won a U.S. House seat in 1998. He was no stranger to Washington, D.C., having served for five years as a staffer for Republican U.S. Rep. Denny Smith of Oregon, including press secretary and chief of staff.

Walden studied journalism at the University of Oregon before graduating in 1981.

He and his wife Mylene have a son.


Past Campaigns:

Greg Walden served in the Oregon House from 1989 to 1995, including two years as majority leader, and in the state Senate from 1995 to 1997.

In 1998, he won election to the 2nd District U.S. House seat opened up by the retirement of Republican Rep. Bob Smith. He was re-elected in 2000 with 74 percent of the vote and in 2002 with 72 percent of the vote.
