Biography:

Zach Wamp was born in Fort Benning, Ga. but his family moved within months to Chattanooga, Tenn., where he still lives. He attended, though didn't graduate from, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, 1977-1980. He majored in industrial relations and political science. He also attended the University of Tennessee, 1979-1980.

Wamp became a commercial and industrial real estate broker. In 1989, he became vice president of Charter Real Estate Corp., where he sold more than $7 million in real estate during his first full year.

He was first elected to the U.S. House in 1994.

Wamp and his wife, Kim, have two children.


Past Campaigns:

Zach Wamp was elected to the U.S. House in 1994 with 52 percent of the vote, defeating Democrat Randy Button. He was re-elected in 1996 with 56 percent of the vote, defeating Democrat Charles Jolly. Wamp was re-elected in 1998, defeating Democrat Jim Lewis with 66 percent of the vote. He was re-elected in 2000 with 64 percent of the vote.

He was re-elected in 2002 with 65 percent of the vote.

In 1992, Wamp narrowly lost to incumbent Democratic Rep. Marilyn Lloyd.
