Biography:

David Wu was born in Taiwan and is the only U.S. House member to have been born in the self-ruled island.

Wu grew up in California, and earned a bachelor's degree from Stanford in 1977. He then spent time at Harvard Medical School before getting a Yale law degree in 1982. After clerking for a federal judge and working for several large law firms, Wu opened a practice in Portland. The firm specialized in helping form high technology businesses in the Portland area, where the industry has taken a solid hold.

He was first elected to the U.S. House in 1998.

Wu and his wife, Michelle, have a son and a daughter.
