Biography:

Lawyer Jim Zupancic was born in South Gate, Calif., and currently resides in Lake Oswego, Ore.

He received his bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University and law degree from the University of the Pacific.

Zupancic was a pioneering entrepreneur in the early days of the voice-mail industry. He later moved to a top law firm in Portland and was elected to the Lake Oswego School Board.

Zupancic lost a 2002 bid for the Legislature, but after he raised a significant amount of money for that race, he turned around and mounted this year's congressional race.

Zupancic and his wife, Marla, have five children.


Past Campaigns:

Jim Zupancic was elected to the Lake Oswego School Board in 1997 and served on the board until 2001.

The following year, Zupancic made an unsuccessful bid for a seat in the Oregon House. He won the GOP primary that year, but lost to Democratic Rep. Greg MacPherson in the November general election.
