Biography:

Tim Michels was born in Lomira, Wis., and now lives in Oconomowoc, where he helps run his family's construction business.

He graduated from St. Norbert College in 1984 and joined the U.S. Army, where he served for 12 years on active duty and completed Ranger training. After leaving active duty, he worked in Chicago and completed two master's degrees at the same time in 1997. He then moved back to Wisconsin to work for the family construction business.

He and his wife, Barbara, have three children.


Past Campaigns:

Before winning the GOP Senate primary in September, Tim Michels' only other bid for public office was a failed 1998 bid for the state Senate, where he lost in the Republican primary. He won 43 percent of the vote in a four-way primary.
