Biography:
Dan Mongiardo was born and raised inHazard. His grandfather, an immigrant fromItaly, operated a small country store in Bulan.His father still runs the same store.
Mongiardo attended public schools in Hazard, graduated from Transylvania University in Lexington before entering the University of Kentucky medical school where he trained to become an ear, nose and throat surgeon. He still is a practicing surgeon, though he has cut back his practice to campaign.
Mongiardo, a bachelor, helped to found the Rotary Free Health Clinic in Hazard to serve the poor of eastern Kentucky. He was chief of staff and chief of surgery at the Appalachian Regional Medical Center in Hazard before he began the campaign.
He is single.
