Inez Tenenbaum made an unsuccessful bid for lieutenant governor in 1994.
In 1998, she was elected as state education superintendent and re-elected in 2002.
She won 76 percent of the vote in the June 2004 Democratic primary, defeating Ben Frasier, to advance to a November election to replace U.S. Senate seat Ernest "Fritz" Hollings, who will retire from in 2005.
