Biography:

Inez Tenenbaum was born March 8, 1951, in Hawkinsville, Ga.

She received bachelor's and master's degrees in education from the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga., and a law degree from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, S.C.

Tenenbaum practiced law with the Sinkler & Boyd firm in Columbia from 1986 to 1992.

She made an unsuccessful bid for lieutenant governor in 1994. In 1998, she ran successfully for state education superintendent and was re-elected in 2002.

She is married to Sam Tenenbaum and lives in Lexington, S.C.

She won 76 percent of the vote in the June 2004 Democratic primary, defeating Ben Frasier, to advance to a November election to replace U.S. Senate seat Ernest "Fritz" Hollings, who will retire from in 2005.
