Biography:

Charlie Broomfield has lived all his life in northwest Missouri's Clay County. He worked his way through high school at the same factory where his father worked, then worked his way through college at William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo.

After graduation, he returned to his high school to teach American history and government before entering public service as a Missouri state legislator. Today, he owns a storage business and lobbies the state legislature.

Broomfield has twice been widowed and was married a third time in 1997 to Marsha Lee Norris. He has three daughters and she has two daughters and a son.


Past Campaigns:

Charlie Broomfield was elected to the Missouri House from 1964 through 1970. He lost the 1972 Democratic primary for Congress to the late Rep. Jerry Litton. Broomfield ran again in 1976 and finished third in the Democratic primary. He won election seven times to the Clay County Commission.

He won the Aug. 3, 2004, Democratic congressional primary with 62 percent of the vote.
