Biography:

Stan Matsunaka was born in Akron, Colo., in 1953, and was elected student body president at Fort Morgan High School in 1971.

He was elected to the state Senate in 1994 and again in 1998. When Democrats won control of the state Senate for the first time in 40 years in 2000, he became their president.

Because he was term-limited, he ran for Congress in 2002, losing to Republican Marilyn Musgrave. He faces Musgrave again in the general election in 2002.
