Biography:

Mike Liffrig was born in Williston, in northwestern North Dakota, on Oct. 3, 1959. He was reared in Fargo, where he graduated from Shanley High School in 1977. He earned an economics degree from the University of North Dakota in 1981, and a law degree from the University of Michigan in 1985.

After three years practicing law, Liffrig began his own mediation firm in 1989. He now works as a mediator and jury consultant, conducting mock trials and helping attorneys pick jurors in large catastrophic injury cases. He served as mediator during a recent land dispute between the cities of Fargo and West Fargo.

Liffrig, his wife, Julie, and the couple's nine children live on a 500-acre ranch about 18 miles northwest of Mandan, where Liffrig keeps his office. Julie Liffrig has a degree in elementary education and a master's degree in public health, and the couple home-schools their children.

Past Campaigns:

Mike Liffrig sought the Republican endorsement to run for attorney general in 1992, losing a convention contest to Bismarck attorney Warren "Duke" Albrecht. He announced his campaign to run against Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., on March 26, days before the start of the Republican state convention. He was endorsed without opposition.
