Biography:

Michael Kinard is a Wichita native who now is president of the local board of education, which governs the largest school district in Kansas.

Kinard graduated from Wichita Heights High School and received his bachelor's degree in business administration from Friends University, also in Wichita. He is the former executive director of the Kansas Minority Business Development Council.

He has served on the Wichita school board since 2001 and became its president in 2003.


Past Campaigns:

Michael Kinard received 73 percent of the vote in his Aug. 3, 2004, primary race against Marty Mork, a 40-year-old warehouse worker from Wichita. Kinard faces Republican incumbent Todd Tiahrt, who is seeking his sixth term.
