Biography:
John Lynch was born in Waltham, Mass., the fifth of six children. His mother taught elementary school and his father ran a local Boy's Club.
Lynch worked his way through the University of New Hampshire, earning a bachelor's degree in 1974. He has an MBA from Harvard Business School and a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center.
The 2004 gubernatorial race is Lynch's first foray into electoral politics. He resigned as chairman of the University System Board of Trustees to run for governor.
He is president of a consulting firm, The Lynch Group, in Manchester, N.H. Before that, he was admissions director of Harvard Business School, and served as president and CEO of Knoll, Inc., a furniture company.
Lynch and his wife susan have two daughters, Jacqueline and Julia, and one son, Hayden. They live in Hopkinton, N.H.
