Listen up, now that the D.C. tax holiday is over, it's Maryland's turn to give shoppers a tax break (5 percent) on clothing and footwear (each item must be $99 or less) until Thursday, Aug. 16, at midnight.

This Weekend:

It's never too warm to think about ski season. So, hot dogs and ski bunnies alike, head to the Ski Chalet warehouse sale, which begins Aug. 17 and goes through Aug. 20. Hours are Friday, Aug. 17, from noon to midnight; Saturday, Aug. 18, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Sunday, Aug. 19, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Monday, Aug. 20, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. The inventory from five large shops is combined in the warehouse for a four-day blowout at the lowest prices of the year. Save on a huge selection of ski equipment, ski clothing, accessories and snowboard gear from such top names as Burton, North Face, Columbia, Rossignol, Volkl, Salomon, Bogner and Atomic.

Still Going:

Watch for new fall stuff coming to Daisy: feminine and flowing dresses from vintage 1940 patterns, a well-priced suede and leather line from Anonymous and men's-style dress shirts from Terese Kalban. And, if you hurry, you might be able to snap up one of Theory's black, microfiber V-neck T-shirts. It's, gulp, $100; but from the rave reports of would-be customers, it may just be worth it.

Savvy gardeners, get up to half off on purchases of outdoor furniture, garden ornaments, tools and more at Smith & Hawken's end-of-season clearance sale.

During Saks Jandel's renovation sale, take 30 percent off some fall merchandise from designers like Kors, Moschino, D&G and Blumarine; summer fashions are reduced 50 percent.

Take your booty to Shake Your Booty's "Big Ass Sale" for bargains (30 percent off) on sandals, pumps, slides and slingbacks; summer handbags are 20 percent off. Until it all goes.

Look for good markdowns on a host of such seasonal items for the garden and patio as market umbrellas, Adirondack chairs and hammocks during the summer sale at Restoration Hardware.
