Summer Style

"Hot town, summer in the city … " Well, you get the idea. And our idea was to cruise downtown to discover how Washingtonians were coping with the heat. More specifically, we went on a mission to find fashion in the city during these lazy, hazy days when liberal office dress policies are the norm even in a town famous for its conservative style.

On a recent bright, sunny summer day, we set up shop by the outdoor patio of Bread Line on 17th and Pennsylvania Avenue NW, a neighborhood lunch haunt for office workers from the World Bank, the FDIC and the White House, lobbyists and even the odd Internet employee or two in search of a fast culinary fix. What we found were downtowners who belie their dowdy reputation and show their style in hip designer sunglasses, colored shirts and patterned ties, tiny cell phones and the latest in transportation modes.
