After the tragedies on Tuesday, Sept. 11, a number of local promoters and groups have organized special events to raise money for charity. These range from give-what-you-can nights at lounges to book drives at local stores.

Here's a day-by-day guide to upcoming benefit events in the Washington area, as well as some ongoing events. Please let us know about any others with an e-mail to nightlife@washingtonpost.com. Thanks.

Nov. 3
Washington's professional soccer teams, D.C. United and the Washington Freedom, play a doubleheader against their New York-based counterparts to raise money for relief efforts. Tickets are $20, but fans with tickets for United's canceled Sept. 12 or Sept. 15 games can exchange them for tickets to these games. The Freedom-New York Power match kicks off at 5, followed by the United and the New York-New Jersey Metrostars.

Nov. 5
Several Washington Redskins will serve as guest bartenders at Morton's of Chicago on Connecticut Avenue. From 6:30 to 8, they'll get your drinks, and all tips will go to the Redskins Relief Fund, a charity established to help victims of the attack on the Pentagon. In their two previous guest bartending stints at Morton's, the 'Skins have raised more than $1400. Additionally, WJFK's Sports Junkies will broadcast their radio show from the lounge, starting at 7.

Nov. 11
The Ancient Order of Hibernians invites you to "Raise a Pint for Freedom" at the Dubliner from 2 to 7. Popular local Irish bands will perform, including Brian Gafney, Brendon's Voyage, Pat Garvey and Tony Kelleher. There will also be a silent auction. All money raised, including the $20 cover charge and drink purchases, will be donated to the New York Ancient Order of Hibernians' World Trade Center Disaster Relief Fund.

Ongoing
Olsson's Bookstores are collecting books for Washington public school libraries and classrooms in memory of the local teachers and students who died in the September 11 attack on the Pentagon. The schools need a wide range of books, new or in new condition, including reference and story books for grades 1 to 4 and 5 to 7. Books can be dropped off at any Olsson's location through November 15.

Through the month of October, Dr. Dremo's Taphouse is offering half-price beers to all firefighters, policemen and emergency personnel.
