In Her Own Words

Her Story

Blast coach Ian Oliver calls Kenia the "Tasmanian Devil." Although only 14 (she turns 15 during the trip), she is known as the most fearless player. This may be because she plays pickup soccer with men in her northwest Washington neighborhood. "Just because I'm a girl doesn't mean anything," she says.

June 26: "I think I'll be able to understand the girls in South Africa a little better than some of my teammates. My parents grew up poor and I also don't have much money."
