An effective aerobic exercise program depends on two important elements--finding an aerobic activity that you can consistently enjoy and afford; and developing a schedule that allows you to fit in four to five aerobic activities every week.

Aerobic exercise is any large muscle activity that you can sustain for 2-3 minutes or longer. Aerobic means "with oxygen." Because aerobic exercise requires oxygen from the air to get to your muscles, the exercise can only continue when a source of oxygen is available.
