A Russian Nightmare
Russia has a declared stockpile of tens of thousands of tons of chemical weapons stored in seven sites across the nation. The stockpile is supposed to be destroyed under a 1993 international agreement, but Russia lacks the funds to go ahead. There are also an unknown number of areas where the military dumped chemical weapons years ago and then forgot about them.
The first map on this page shows the location of Leonidovka, a village near an uncharted chemical weapons graveyard, and the small town of Gorny, where a warehouse filled with old chemical weapons is found.
The second map shows the proximity of rotting chemical weapons to Leonidovka.
