 A Cuban soldier stands beside a tank during the 1961 Bay of Pigs attack. Fidel Castro led his 2,000 troops to meet the invasion force of more than 1,000 CIA-trained Cuban exiles who landed April 17 on Playa Giron. In two days, the exiles were crushed: 120 killed, 1,200 taken captive.
