  • Helms-Burton Act
    Full text of the Helms-Burton Act from THOMAS legislative database. Enacted in 1996, the measure allows U.S. companies and citizens to sue foreign companies that invest in expropriated property in Cuba and requires the government to deny entry into the United States to executives of foreign companies that invest in such property.
  • 1992 Cuban Democracy Act
    The Cuban Democracy Act, introduced by Rep. Robert J. Torricelli (D-N.J.), forbids foreign subsidiaries of American companies to trade with Cuba and closes U.S. ports to ships that have called in Cuba within six months.

    OPPOSITION

  • Concilio Cubano
    Concilio Cubano is a coalition of human rights and political groups, lawyers, journalists, trade unionists and others, set up in October 1995.
  • Brothers to the Rescue
    An anti-Castro human rights group of Cuban exiles in Miami. Cuban pilots in February 1996 shot down two small airplanes flown by the organization, killing four people and touching off a new round of tensions with Washington.
