SA-2 MISSILE
Purpose: To destroy enemy aircraft from the ground.
Statistics:
- Soviet-made surface-to-air missile system

- Range of up to 31 miles
How they work: Ground radar information is sent to the missile guidance system in flight. Missiles can hit aircraft at altitudes as high as 60,000 feet.
When used: An SA-2 shot down an American U-2 spy plane over the Soviet Union in 1960. About 150 U.S. aircraft were downed during the Vietnam War.
