Here, the Joint Stand-Off Weapon is attached under the wing of an F-18. As it is released, wings unfold to glide the 13-foot long missile to a target. Signals from Global Positioning Satellites are used to program the missile. It can circle around a target before dropping its payload. The weapon is currently on the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf. Some of its targets would include building complexes, troops and parked aircraft.
