COUNTERMEASURES
If Iraq fires at a U.S. military aircraft, countermeasures might kick in.

If the enemy uses radio signals to guide its weapons, a U.S. aircraft can emit a similar signal. That tricks the enemy weapon and causes it to fly off course, shielding the aircraft from attack.
If the enemy fires a heat-seeking missile, a U.S. plane can launch flares to create a heat source stronger than that of the aircraft. The heat-seeking missile goes after the warmer body.
