    *Note: Despite the recent tests by both India and Pakistan, the two countries are not technically recognized as "declared nuclear powers" under the 1968 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), hence the designation as "self-declared" powers. "Declared nuclear powers" are those who have agreed to the terms and obligations of the treaty.
