Charlene Lichtenstein: Welcome to Starry Eye Astrology. I’m Charlene Lichtenstein, the washingtonpost.com celestial seer, ready to answer your questions and engage everyone in a lively discussion about astrology and the new age. My websites are www.AccessNewAge.com/zscope and www.TheStarryEye.com
Starbite of the week:
There is a lunar eclipse on May 16 in Scorpio. Eclipses bring up a time of heighten emotion and unclear thinking. Eclipses stir up our emotions and may encourage us to over-react or act with our hearts and not our heads. Try to avoid signing important documents three days before and ten days after the eclipse. Use the eclipse time to explore your creative, otherworldly side.
And now let’s hear what you have to say. Please include your birthdate, time and place for all astrology questions. And, if you have any feedback on some of my past answers, please send them along!
Centreville, Va.: Hi Charlene,
About a month ago you asked me to write back to you so you could run my chart through the computer and get a better idea if my husband and I should buy a second/vacation home in Florida. I don't remember ever getting a chance to do it, but am very interested in your reading/opinion.
Me: 1/24/45 Brooklyn, N.Y. 2:00 p.m.
My husband 12/10/40 Brooklyn, N.Y. unknown time
Would you mind letting me know what you find? Thanks so much -- I'm anxious for your reply!
Charlene Lichtenstein: I remember your question - I need to know where in FLorida. The chart will be different if it is Tampa or Miami, for example. Please re-send your question with a specific location and I will le tyou know what I see.
Annapolis, Md.: This Mercury in Retrograde is horrible -- when is it over?
Charlene Lichtenstein: Isn’t it though! Actually it is a great time for creative work; let yourself go with the flow, write poetry, compose. But detailed work? Forgetaboutit. Mercury went retrograde on April 26th in 20 degrees Taurus. It stations (stops retrograding) on May 20 but wait until after the shadow of the retrograde when Mercury returns to 20 degreees Taurus on June 6th. Then forge ahead!!
Colorado Springs, Colo.: Could you please tell me if I could be business partner with cancer sign?
My sign is Leo and my will be business partner is Cancer. My birthday is Aug/16/47 and he is July 20/1950.
Charlene Lichtenstein: You have sun in leo, mercury in leo and mars (the planet of action) in cancer. You take action with your heart not your head and have a generous and expansive personality. You loooove the limelight too.
Your partner has sun in cancer, mercury in leo and mars in libra. Your cancerian partner is sensitive and emotional but communicates in an expansive manner. Your partner will seek harmony and diplomacy in his/her actions.
This can work out well if you can remember not to trod on your cancer's claws and give a bit of credit to their efforts. Your partner will help balance out your exhuberance and help you put things into perspective.
I hope that helps!
Brambleton, Va.: Hi Charlene -- I wrote in a few months ago about a new house my husband and I were thinking of buying and new/second job search I was contemplating. You said we should wait on the house but things looked good for me with the job search. We ended up getting the house but I've stagnated on the job front.
I'm increasingly dissatisfied with my job but need to keep it for a variety of reasons -- not the least of which is the house. Can you tell me what's on the horizon? I'm looking for info about my physical and mental health, family, career (if there's anything to report), basically is there any good ahead?
7/28/69 - Lancaster Calif., 12:30 a.m. (me)
4/15/64 - Youngstown, Ohio, 2:00 p.m. (my husband)
Charlene Lichtenstein: Maybe you took time away from the job search to pursue the house? And now the house has you locked into the job?
Let's see - sun in leo, possibly taurus rising. May sees a great deal of energy in your careere (mars in your 10th house) but neptune retrogrades there on 5/16 for a few months so your dreams may be off kilter there. Read the fine print if you get another offer. It may not be what it seems.
Your husband has sunin aries, possibly leo rising which currently has retro mercury transiting the 10th house of career. There may be some miscommunication on his job but this will clear in early June. He has great opportunities and possibilities of new directions since Jupiter is in his first house of new beginnings. He should make it a point to get out and meet new people and get involved in new directions. You never know where it will take him.
So I would say that you need to tread carefully in any career issue while the opportunities for him may prove to be luckier.
That is at least for now.
Fairfax, Va.: Madam Lichtenstein,
Can you please do my husband's and my chart.
Me born 11/25/67 in Nazare, Portugal -- 7:00 a.m. I'm having a bit of a hard time figuring out my career, can you provide any insight?
he born 4/1/73 in Corvallis, Ore -- 11:00 a.m. PST
Thank you so much!
Charlene Lichtenstein: I think that you wrote in a while ago - I recall your birthplace. I ran your chart on my computer and have this answer waiting for you!
You have sun (personality) in Sagittarius, moon (emotions) in virgo, mercury (thoughts and communication) in scorpio, venus (love) in libra and mars (action) in Capricorn. Generally you are a very open, friendly and honest person with an incisive mind. You strive for harmony in relationships and are attracted to physically attractive people. You are conservative and strategic in your actions and can be extremely successful in life.
Jupiter, the planet of luck, in in your 10th house of career and is also the highest planet in your chart – luck in long term professional pursuits. You also have the moon and Pluto in your 10th house indicating that you need an emotional connection to your career and it will have transforming impact on you and others. It also indicates that you will experience great change in your professional path throughout your life. The ebb and flow and turgency of the path is part of what you feed upon internally. Keep that in mind….
Currently transiting Pluto (hovering over your 1st house of new beginnings and your 2nd house of money) is creating tension and squaring your natal Pluto in your 10th house of career. No wonder you feel stress. This stress may be there for a while until Pluto passes over your natal Pluto – and that will take years. But go with your feelings and understand where the stress is coming from to make the tension work for you. As Pluto squares your natal Pluto it is also making an excellent aspect to the top of your chart. No matter what happens, no matter what you decide to do, it will be an excellent move. Use your valuable mars in Capricorn to carefully ascertain all the chess moves before you take action.
You have it all within you to make a great decision. Understand the role that Pluto is now playing in your life and decide according to what you feel internally.
I hope that helps.
East Coast: Good evening, Ms. Lichtenstein. I must say I think your chats are just terrific, and a lot of fun to read, as well. (The details you include in your responses are just amazing to me.) I hope you have the chance to comment on my question.
I have been working on a creative project for the past six and half months or so. The work has been a great joy and I have loved every minute of it. However, approximately a month ago I just seemed to be overcome with (project-specific) inertia, and have made very little progress since. It's not that I've lost interest in the project - it is always on my mind and I very much intend to finish it - but I seem to have run out of ideas. Have you any thoughts?
Time: 7:22 am
Place: Wilmington, Del.
This is most vexing problem, and I'd really value your insight. My thanks to you, and also to the excellent washingtonpost.com staff.
Charlene Lichtenstein: Thank you. Let's see how your chart looks -
You have sun in virgo, moon in pisces, mercury in leo, venus in cancer and mars in virgo. Possibly libra rising.
You are generally rather pragmatic and practical but have a deep emotional well, You may even be a bit intuitive. You are an expansive and dramatic thinker and communicator and express your love deeply. You take action in a practical and detailed manner and are very down to earth when you fight and take a position.
With libra rising, you have pisces on the cusp of your 6th house of work. The day to day job for you has a certain level of spirituality and needs to be creative. You now have surprising uranus in that chart sector so you might experience surprises or jolts there. That means ebbs and flows. Uranus will retorgrade in June as Mars, planet of action, also enters that sector. Expect much more ups and downs there as you add a bit of energy and action to these uranian shocks.
You might be feeling a bit more stagnation because pluto in sag is squaring your virgo and pisces planets. And pluto is retograding now so there may be an urge to go forward but something holds you back. This is all like a sapping of strength and hold back. This will go on, back and forth for a while but in the meantime, you may find a well of ideas through friends and large social groups. I suggest that you join some new clubs or organizations to help spark some energy for you - Jupiter in your 11th house.
Let me know how it goes.
Fairfax, Va.: Another relocation question: I'm 5/19/1950, Midwest, husband 5/4/48 U.K. Currently thinking of a vacation home either near Charleston, S.C., or near Boca Raton, Fla. Advice?
Charlene Lichtenstein: I will run these charts on the computer and get back to you next week. Please re-send the question with a reminder.
Washington, D.C.: For the past 2.5 years, I have had a horrible working relationship with my manager who is a bully to everyone but to me in particular. She has worked here longer than me, is a workaholic, and is thought highly of by her boss, despite bumpy times with many others across the organization. I hate conflict and it is wearing me down physically and emotionally. I intend to end this working arrangement and wondered: are better things in store for me ahead? My birth details: Halifax, Canada; September 17,1952
Charlene Lichtenstein: I would love to know your boss's birth data....
You have sun in virgo, mercury in virgo and mars in sag. You like details and structure and communicate in a very measured manner. You take action in a fair and honest way and like to have latitude and freedom to do what you need to do. No wonder you chaff a working for a bully!
Wish I knew your birth time so I can see what is on the cusp of your 10th house of career. But what I can tell yo is that with Pluto (planet of transformations) in sag, it is squaring your virgo and conjuncting your sag planets. SO you may feel under even greater stress since you want change but the change is so unpredictable. And the change that does happen is not what you intend at all. It may be a time of uncertainty and stress. But pluto brings change where change is needed - whether we feel comfortable with it or not.
The sun is moving into gemini on the 22nd possibly creating in you a need or chaffing to do something with your long term goals. Think about it but wait until the sun moves on into Cancer before you act.
Seattle, WA: Hello Madame. My DOB 01/24/64, 7:05 p.m., Mandalay, Burma. My friend: 01/23/64, 6:13p.m., Sacramento, Calif. Both aquarians, leo rising. Could you see if we have a future together? Thanks.
Charlene Lichtenstein: You both have venus (the planet of love) in pisces.
You are both highly romantic! In love with love.
The one difference in your charts could be your moon signs. Your friend may have moon in taurus and you may have it in gemini. (I would have to run the charts on my pc to be absolutely sure). If that is the case, you may be more flirtatious and your friend may be more steady emotionally.
But generally I see you two as two peas in a pod. So you will either love to be with someone very similiar to you or you two may get bored. It is up to the two of you! Aquarians are very fixed signs so you two may just stick it out!
Silver Spring, Md.: Good afternoon Charlene,
Thank you for the thought provoking online sessions. Like the others, I'm curious as to what the year ahead holds for me, in all aspects.
10-13-1968, Tallahassee, Fla., approximately 3 p.m.
Charlene Lichtenstein: Well, you have sun in libra, mercury in libra, venus in scorpio, mars in virgo. You are generally very sunny and diplomatic. You strive for harmony and can be very charismatic. You can be very intense and passionate when you are in love and when you take action you take it in a pragmatic and practical manner.
You possibly have aquarius/ pisces rising which would place lucky Jupiter in your 7th house of partnerships. This is a very lucky time for you to seek relationships, especially around the job.
Uranus, planet of surprises can be impacting your finances this year. Expect ups and downs and extraordinary expenses.
Transformations in your friendships and social groups. And some inspiring thoughts as Neptune transits your 12th house. May be a good time to study yoga or other new age disciplines.
Cambridge, Mass.: I wrote in last week asking if I would meet 'the one' this year: DOB 11/9/75 Houston, Tex. 7:06 a.m. I will be starting a new career and will be relocating to a new city this summer. Can you please do a chart for me on what I can expect for the next 12 months (love and career)? I have my eyes set on a cancer man right now. Will anything come of it?
Charlene Lichtenstein: You are smack in the middle of your Saturn Return which is a three year period (27-30) of great changes, frustrations and stress. We want things NOW but they either do not happen or if they do, they were not what we wanted at all! Read more about the return at www.TheStarryEye.com ont he Zodiascope page. It is thought that anything begun during the return does not last because we are changing so much that we may decide after our return is over that we have "out grown" it. So you may not want to meet "the one" this year... or next.
You are sun in scorpio, venus in virgo and possibly sag rising. Very intense and passionate, earthy in love and a bit picky. Now until May 17th is a great time for romance - a fling - as venus is transiting your 5th house. Over the next year or so - luck and expansion through travel and higher education. I strongly suggest either and you never know what can happen!
A cancer man? Where is his venus? Please send his birth info and I will have a look.
Reston, Va.: Hi Charlene -- I'm a Leo/Virgo cusp, born 8-22-67 in Philadelphia. Being born on the cusp, does that mean I'm a little bit Leo, and a little bit Virgo?
Second (and third) questions: I am in a rut at work, and am wondering what the stars look like in this area. I am also feeling like I'm in a rut in my romantic life -- anything you see in that direction as well? Thanks.
Charlene Lichtenstein: In 1967, the sun was solidly in leo so you are a leo. Mystery solved!
You also have moon in pisces, mercury in leo, venus in virgo and mars in scorpio. You are rather intuitive and very romantic. A bit earthy and picky too in love. You are a strategic fighter and very political.
I wish I had your time of birth so I can see what is going on in your 6th house of work. I would say that with Jupiter in leo for the next year or so, you should expect happy, lucky turn of events. Keep yourself open to new things and communciate your needs to others. One thing may just lead to another....
Bethesda, Md.: Hi,
I hate my job and have been pursuing a career change for the past several months. The industry I'm trying to break into is competitive, but things have been looking up for me, especially in the past month or two. I've been on a couple interviews and am waiting to hear on one job in particular. My question is -- how long do I have to wait for something to finally come through? I feel like I've been working at this forever and am waiting for a streak of good career luck. Any help is appreciated! Thanks.
My birthday -- June 4, 1977 10:14 a.m. Fort Hood, Tex. (about 100 miles north of Austin)
Charlene Lichtenstein: You have sun in gemini, mercury in taurus and mars in aries. Possibly leo rising which places taurus on the cusp of your 10th hosue of career.
You are generally very friendly and witty and have a way of expressing yourself that is measured, yet very intelligent. You are a brash and bold person when you take action and nothing and nobody can stand in your way!
You do best in a career that provides rewards for hard work, that has a bit of structure and where you can make mucho money!
The sun is currently in that sector now giving you optimism and opportunity. But retro mercury is also there so do not sign on the dotted line, take any very important interviews or talk to very important people until after June 6 or so after the retrograde has passed. That is the timing that I see.
Los Angeles, Calif.: Me: 1/13/69 partner: 3/31/74
A general question about cross-cultural relationships. I presume the cosmos sees no difference in the fact that I am of western background/heritage and my partner of Asian, but I am aware of small differences in how we view our relationship and the world. Can these differences/clashes be due to astrological reasons and not cultural ones? Should I be concerned?
Charlene Lichtenstein: Can it be too that your partner is in the middle of a Saturn Return? The reutrn phase is very stressful - please read more about it at www.TheStarryEye.com on the Zodiascope page.
I believe that cultural, environmental and astrological differences all play some role but astrology has the greatest impact. Cultural and environmental issues can be reviewed on a conscious level. Astrology is more innate and requires self knowledge and recognition. How many of us really have that?
Washington, D.C.: Where can I get information about what some of the terms you commonly use mean? I have no idea what it means to have a planet rising.
Charlene Lichtenstein: Good question! ANd my apologies for bantering these terms around!
One's astrological birthchart is divided into twelve "houses" - the charts look like a pizza pie with 12 slices. This is a schema of how the sky looked at the exact time, date and place of your birth. The horizon cuts this circle in half so the first "house" is the part of the chart wheel that is at the horizon - the "rising" sign is the sign that was at the horizon at your birth date and time. The "rising" sign (or the ascendant) is how you first appear to others and represents the beginning of things. SO if you have cancer rising, you may have a more rounded face (more moonlike - the ruling planet of cancer) and you may appear to others to be more like a cancer at first meeting. You may also approach new things or new people in a cancerian manner- more mothering and more sensitively.
Does that help?
Washington, D.C.: Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., Alleghney County
Time of Birth 2:26 a.m. 9/19/1974
Should I relocate to a new city
Charlene Lichtenstein: Okay, which city do you have in mind? I would like to run a relocation chart for you to see if that location gives you better energy and opportunity. If you can send me one or two possibly locations, I will be happy to run those charts on the computer for you and give you my assessment.
Charlene Lichtenstein: We have run out of time!
Thank you all for your great questions.
For those who I coouldn't get to tonight, please try again next week - May 19, 2003 at 6pm.
Until next Monday, happy stargazing!
