Lichtenstein's skills run in the family. Her great aunt, Etta Weimar, was the famous Romanian card reader to both kings and queens. A native of New York City, Lichtenstein was educated in Europe where she pursued the study of tarot and astrology. She returned to New York in 1974 and has lived in Greenwich Village ever since, dispensing advice whether requested or not.
Lichtenstein's monthly and weekly astrology columns are carried in newspapers across the country. When not writing or working on her Web site, AccessNewAge.com/zscope, Lichtenstein offers private consultation. She is a member of the National Council of Geocosmic Research and often lectures on both astrology and tarot.

Starbite of the week:
The Sun will change signs this week moving from Taurus into Gemini. Since the Sun represents our hopes and dreams, we may find that we can use this time to reassess our direction and apply new energy to old problems to solve them. The Sun provides optimism and fresh energy. Where is the Sun shining in your chart for the next 32 days?
And now lets hear what you have to say. Please include your birth date, time and place for all astrology questions. And, if you have any feedback on some of my past answers, please send them along!
We have some great questions tonight!
Washington, D.C.: Charlene --
Love your chats! I have submitted a few times asking advise about my upcoming move and lost love relationship. But I always seem to leave out important info for you (sorry)! This time, I will try to include everything.
Me: Female born Jan. 14, 1970, 12:12 a.m., Canton Ohio
Him: Born Kansas, Feb. 27, 1971 (lives in Bethesda, Md.)
I am moving from Washington, D.C. to the Canton/Massillon (cites are very close together) NE area of Ohio on May 30. I have sold my condo (closing is on May 30), quit the job I was not happy with and am going to Ohio to spend time with family. The time just feels right for me to move to Ohio (at least for a few months).
Another reason I have decided to leave is that the guy in my life is not ready for a commitment. Things have fizzled way out during the past five months -- but I still find myself drawn to him and would love for him to "come around." Any hope?
May we all find our true path in life!
Charlene Lichtenstein: I have everything I need and I ran your chart for both D.C. and the Ohio location. What I see comparing the two charts is that you are more involved with relationships and family in Ohio - your venus (how you express love) and mercury (how you communicate) are in your 4th house of the home and family there while in D.C. those two planets are in your communication sector. Also your moon (emotions) are in your 7th house while in Ohio and in your 6th house of work in D.C. More emotionally attached to your job in Washington and more in sync with relationships (7th house) in Ohio.
With all of this one might say that your family support may hold you back from success since in Ohio your moon in the 7th is square your mid-heaven (outer career success). So you may feel less competitive in Ohio than in D.C. In D.C. this square occurs with moon in your 6th so you may find that as you emotionally react to things on the job, it can conflict with long term goals for you in D.C.
In Ohio your powerpoint vertex is in your 7th house - relationships give you oomph. (and that is your birth chart position so it is a natural high for you). In D.C. your vertex is in your 6th house. You get a lift from work - source of power for you.
Your guy has sun in pisces, moon in aries and venus in cap. You have sun cap, moon in aries and venus in cap. So there is a great deal of connection between the two of you. Both of you are firecrackers emotionally no holds barred, but you are both afraid of leaping into love - fear of rejection? Your man is also highly romantic and may idealize partners. You are far more practical and a bit jaded. But there is so much simpatico between the two of you I would give it more time.
One last thought - there is an eclipse on May 31 which can cause great emotional reactions. Stay cool and try to close your apartment asap and do not close it on the 31st.
Los Angeles, Calif.: Dear Charlene --
What exactly is a rising sign?
Charlene Lichtenstein: A rising sign, also known as the ascendant, is the sign of the zodiac that was on the horizon at the exact time and location of your birth. It is also the sign that is on your first house (the horoscope has 12 houses -- looking like a pizza pie with twelve slices).
The first house represents new beginnings, your appearance and new people. So your rising sign can indicate how you approach new things, how you appear to others on a first impression basis and how you may even look physically.
I hope that helps!
Santa Barbara, Calif.: What does it mean to "be on the cusp?"
Charlene Lichtenstein: Being on the cusp means that you fall very close to the beginning of the next sign or house. So for example, if you were born on Feb 19, 1971 you would be right on the cusp of the beginning of the sign pisces, just about at the last degree of aquarius.
Cusp folks tend to have some of the attributes of both signs.
Alexandria, Va.: Good Day Charlene! Being 38-years-old and never married, I wonder if I will ever meet Mr. Right. If so, when?
Birth date: 11/8/64
Place: Teaneck, N.J.
Time: 12:48 p.m.
Charlene Lichtenstein: Astrology can help you with timing.
Let's see your chart placements -- you have sun in scorpio, mercury in scorpio, venus in libra, mars in virgo. Possibly aquarius rising.
Generally you are very intense and passionate. That is with most things except when you display love -- with venus in libra you can be a bit laid back and strive for harmony and diplomacy. You may also be attracted to physically attractive people. You are very practical when you take action and are very detailed oriented.
I have to say that now that you have lucky and expansive Jupiter transiting your 7th house of relationships that this is a great time to get out there and seek a relationship! Luck is on your side so do not waste time!
You have leo on your 7th house so try to find someone who is in the arts or who is interested in creative things. Take an art class, join a theater club, go to performances. Anything artistic can put you in the right crowd.
Go for it and let me know when you find that Mr. Right!
Pullman, Wash.: Bush formally announced his re-election bid in the 24-hour period around the lunar eclipse last week. How could that affect his chances?
Charlene Lichtenstein: Eclipses are time when our emotions are heightened. Usually things begun during the eclipse do not pan out -- that is why I suggested to the person in the first question on this show not to sell her apartment on the eclipse.
An announcement is something else to me, especially since he is already in office. But it is an intriguing question and I would like to do a bit of research on this and see what others think. I would say, topline, that if he were to sign some paperwork in regard to this announcement or take any other physical action, it is ill advised during an eclipse and could impact his run.
Washington, D.C.: I have what I guess would be called a "high level" problem. I have several job offers and don't know what to do. One job would offer a better working environment than the other (smaller, more collegial), but the work wouldn't be the most satisfying. The other place is not a very good working environment (I know people there) but the work would be more satisfying. I'm waiting to hear from a third place, which has advantages over both of these, but I may not hear anything back or at least not very soon. So I'm torn between good job/bad place or good place/so-so job. Oy! My birth date is Nov. 5, 1952, about 8:30-9 p.m. in Detroit, Mich. Thanks.
Charlene Lichtenstein: This is a much happier question than many job-related questions!
So here goes -- you have sun in scorpio, mercury in sag, venus in sag and mars in cap. You are generally passionate and can be a very expansive thinker and communicator. You are careful and political when you take action and can go far because you are so strategic. You may possibly have gemini rising which places pisces on the cusp of your 10th house of career.
Pisces on that house indicates that you need some type of spiritual connection to your career. It would have to be creative and enable you to feel "at one" with the work environment. You are very in tune with what you do and your work surroundings.
Mars will enter your 10th house on June 18th giving you great energy and incentive. But try not to overreact -- Neptune, planet of delusions and imagination goes retrograde on June 7 in that chart sector and conjures up all sorts of scenarios that may or may not be true.
My advice is to choose the job that gives you a special intuitive charge and make your move before early June. I actually think that you already know which one is best for you of the two you have.
Baltimore, Md.: My daughter was born by Cesarian section on Aug. 21, 2001. Aug. 21 makes her a Leo, but what if she wasn't meant to have been born until several days later? My wife had not even gone into labor, as the caesarian was necessary due to a breech baby, and we scheduled it for when the right doctor was available. Could my daughter really be a Virgo?
Charlene Lichtenstein: Well we are given the birth chart at the time of our birth. I would say that since she was breech, it was karmic that we have the technology to be able to deliver a healthy baby who would otherwise be at risk.
She is a sun leo but with mercury in virgo and venus in cancer and mars in sag so she has good solid earth in her communication skills -- a practical and detailed oriented communicator, she is very loving with that watery venus sign and an honest and forthright taker of action. A nice combination of attributes!
Alexandria, Va.: I asked last week about the effects of Uranus in Pisces for the next seven years, since a bizarre episode happened to me on April 19. You wanted to know more information: my birth date is Feb. 21, 1973 and I was born at around 9 a.m. I was nervous about my future in the coming years until this Uranus thing clears up -- will anything positive present itself in this time period? Also, can you recommend a person who can do a complete chart for me?
Charlene Lichtenstein: You have sun in pisces, moon in libra, mercury in pisces, venus in aquarius and mars in capricorn. You are very intuitive and spiritual and can be very balanced emotionally. You are an emotional thinker and communicator who may be extra cautious in taking action.
I think you may have aries rising which would place this explosive Uranus in your 12th house of hidden things. It is where things bite us on the butt when we least expect it. Uranus retrogrades on June 7 so things may be a bit bizarre for a while. However it can also be a cleansing time for you where things that you have long buried and things that may be holding you back suddenly burst out in the open. You have to deal with hem but you will lighten your karmic load in the process and take yourself to new heights in the process.
There are probably several great astrologers in the D.C. area who can do your chart in person. You should check the National Council of GeoCosmic Research for their D.C. chapter. I do personal readings via audio cassette. If you want more information on that you can e-mail me at email@example.com
East Coast, USA: Dear Madame,
I've always admired your truthfulness in reading charts, whether or not the news is what your readers hope to have revealed. Can you tell me what mine shows for job hunting and finances in the months ahead?
I was born on March 11, 1953 in Milwaukee, Wis.
Charlene Lichtenstein: Thanks -- I try to find some opportunity, even if it means waiting.
So let's see -- you have sun in pisces, mercury in aries, venus in aries and mars in aries. You are very pioneering for a pisces! Generally you can be soft, intuitive and sensitive but you have a bold and brash way about you too! You are a forceful communicator, bold in love and fearless in taking action.
I wish I had your time of birth so I could see what is on the cusp of your 10th house of career. Can you re-send your question and I can give you more insight?
Pleasantville, N.Y.: Hi Charlene,
I was hoping that you could help me out with a question regarding my career. I was born in Yonkers, N.Y. on May 9th, 1980 at 9:01 a.m. I am, in general, dissatisfied with my life and see very little purpose or meaning in it. I have a wonderful boyfriend who I love and he is this only worthwhile thing in my life right now. I am thinking that much of this dissatisfaction is due to my career, but am unsure of what direction to go in with it. Can you help?
Charlene Lichtenstein: Okay -- you have sun in taurus, mercury in taurus and mars in virgo. You are very practical and careful as you maneuver. You are also a careful and considerate communicator.
Possibly cancer rising which places aries at the top of your chart. You need a career where you don't feel tied down and hemmed in. You really need to be your own boss or have a boss that gives you great independence. You are fearless in your career and want to take risks. You need room to roam and may not even feel that you want to wear corporate garb. Not sure what you are doing now but look for a type of work that can give you a sense of conquering and accomplishment. You are an adventurer and a pioneer professionally. Let that aries energy go forth!
Washington, D.C.: Okay one more time. I keep forgetting something.
birth date: May 12, 1959
Place: New York, New York
Time: 12 noon
Seeking your guidance -- yearning to move into creative/communications field -- writing, marketing, etc., but have 20 years in government service (had to raise a child). How can I summon courage to move into new field or should I just make the best of things the way they are?
Charlene Lichtenstein: Okay, now we are ready!
You have sun in taurus, mercury in aries and mars in cancer. You are steady and loyal in general but you are also an aggressive communicator and make your point in no uncertain terms! You fight with your heart and not your head -- can be an emotional fighter.
Possibly leo rising which places taurus on the cusp of your 10th house of career. Taurus is a slow and steady energy. You get on a track and keep on going and going like that energizer bunny. And it it hard to change course.
But Taurus is also ruled by venus. As practical and directioned as taurus is, the sign also yearns for art and beauty. So that is where that creative tug is coming from.
Taurus on the 10th means carefull and risk adverse cap on the 6th house of work. So you really feel a sense of duty (cap) and a sense of being on a course that cannot change (taurus).
Astrology tells you the energies at work. It is up to you to take action to overcome or enhance what you have working here. If you are unhappy, want a change and can afford to do so, start to look around and see what can give you what you need.
That cap energy may suggest that you hedge your bets by trying something on an after work volunteer basis so you can see if it is really what you want or not.
Welland, Ontario, Canada: Madame ... Everywhere I turn lately seems to be met with frustration, especially in my career. It's like butting my head against a wall.
I was born May 19, 1959, in Stratford, Ontario, Canada between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m.
Any advice or words of encouragement?
Charlene Lichtenstein: Let's see -- you have sun in taurus, mercury in taurus and mars in cancer. Possibly libra rising which places cancer on the top of your chart in your career sector.
You are very loyal and steady with a solid way of communicating. You are an emotional fighter and can overreact. Your career needs to have an emotional pull and you can achieve great things by application in your career.
Saturn, planet of problems and delays is inching into this area of your chart so expect things to become more stressful and Saturn plies you with lovely learning experiences for the next couple of years. But as you work harder than you ever worked and feel that you are not receiving the payoff you deserve, Saturn will in fact reward those who work hard and you may find that when Saturn eases up a bit that you will go farther than you ever thought possible because you have learned so much! Hard lessons well done bring great rewards.
Hopefully that will give you encouragement to give it your all!
Glasgow, Ky.: PLEASE ANSWER!!
For over 6 months, I have been unemployed and trying to get back to the place I call home (N.C.)since there are NO jobs in my profession here right now. I have experienced the WORST time in finding anything and my family either wants to move soon -- or stay put for several years, as I have teens in high school.
Is there anything indicating stay/go, success in job hunt? My name is also Charlene :-p and my dob is 27 March '53 Paris, FR at 1:30 a.m.
Charlene Lichtenstein: YIKES!
Well I need more information before I can run a relocation chart for you. So you are in Glasgow, Ky. now (please tell me the nearest city to that place) and you want to go back to N.C. - but where in N.C?
Jakarta, Indonesia: Dear Charlene Lichtenstein,
Will I have promotion in career or success in business in the (near) future?
Date of birth: July 13, 1943, at approximately 6 a.m.
Place of birth: Reteh, Riau, Indonesia
Charlene Lichtenstein: Because you are born in Indonesia, I would like to run your birth chart on my computer. My rising sign charts for the show are based on east coast USA.
So let me get back to you in time for the next show which is in two weeks (June 2). Please resubmit at that time and remind me that I am running your chart.
No City, No State: I really hope you can help me! I am in a situation where a (married) co-worker and I are on the edge of an affair. I am trying my best to withstand the situation but for a variety of reasons, it has proven to be difficult. I now have the option of bowing out of a project (that he is working on) but it would be noticeable and may be commented on (up til now, I'm positive that nobody has any idea). I am concerned about what is the right move to make. I have come to the conclusion that I do not want to get involved with this man and I think I can control myself but unfortunately not the situation. Should I bow out of the project (and miss a great opportunity) or stay in but be very careful? Do the stars have any other words of wisdom? I was born in Seoul on 5/25/72; he was born 6/7/60 in N.Y. (no times known). Thank you for any guidance you can share!
Charlene Lichtenstein: Hmmm. You have sun in gemini and venus in cancer. You can be highly emotional in love situations but you also have mercury in solid and practical taurus so you know that anything that crosses the line for you is not in your best career interest.
He has sun and venus in gemini. Venus in gemini folks are flirtatious and can balance more than one love relationship. That information alone should have your sensitive and possessive venus in cancer take note.
I do not know your time of birth so I do not know what is on the cusp of your 10th house of career. But I would say that your gemini sun can keep it all together for you and your venus in cancer should remember that he is a big flirt. So do the project and keep your mind on the job!
Glasgow, Ky.: I am in South Central Ky. but lived in Coastal N.C. in Pamlico County. Is that enough info?
Charlene Lichtenstein: Coastal N.C. -- close to what city?
Byron, Wyo.: Hello Madam, Your column is wonderful! I am wondering about what the next year holds for my husband and I as far as home, work, and finances. Me 11/06/72, Salt Lake City, Utah, 7:02 p.m. Him: 06/02/77, Lovell, Wyo., no time. Any insight you may have would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Charlene Lichtenstein: Thanks!
You have sun in scorpio, mercury in sag and mars in libra. Possibly gemini rising which places pisces on your 10th house of career. You are generally very intense and passionate. An honest and expansive communicator who seeks harmony and balance.
You will have an opportunity to make great inroads in your career in early June as Mars enters your 10th house. But don't overreact to things -- uranus is in that sector too and can overturn carefully laid plans. Saturn will tighten your financial belts as it enters your 2nd house of finance on June 5. There may be concerns about money but Saturn teaches you many useful things and you may find that when that transit is over, you are on the road to retirement and have become a much better handler of money.
Some interesting changes in any one-to-one relationship as pluto retrogrades in your 7th house. Change where change is needed -- cleaning out cobwebs and barriers to true fulfillment. This can be business or in love.
I hope that helps!
Glasgow: New Bern, N.C.-- ~70 miles east of Raleigh.
Charlene Lichtenstein: Thanks!
See you all in two weeks -- next week is Memorial Day so there are no shows that night. Until June 2 at 6 p.m. Happy stargazing to all!
P.S. to the person who asked about cusps -- I also wanted to add that when a sign is on the cusp of a House in a chart, it means that it is the sign that gives color and energy to that area of your life that the house represents. For example the 7th house is relationships and if you have cancer on the cusp of that house, you approach relationships like a cancer -- sensitive and caring. Hope that helps answer the question in its entirety!
That wraps up today's show. Thanks to everyone who joined the discussion.
