Holly Degn
Washington, D.C.
This is my absolute favorite holiday treat. I inherited the recipe from my grandmother.
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup sugar
1 cup shortening
2 eggs
1 cup dark molasses
3 cups flour
1 ½ teaspoon salt
1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup boiling water
METHOD:
Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and molasses and blend well. Add the dry ingredients alternately with the boiling water. Bake in a greased and floured 11x13-inch pan at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes.
