Sour Cream Cutout Cookies     Email The Link to This Gallery Email this recipe to a friend Julie Stanek

I've tried many cutout cookie recipes over the years and this is my favorite. Not crisp like a lot of recipes but more of a soft, flaky texture.

INGREDIENTS:
•  1 teaspoon baking soda
•  1 cup sour cream
•  1 cup butter, softened
•  2 cups sugar
•  3 egg yolks
•  1 teaspoon vanilla
•  1/8 teaspoon salt
•  4 3/4 cups flour

METHOD:
Mix baking soda into sour cream. Cream butter and sugar. Add egg yolks. Add sour cream mixture into butter, sugar and eggs. Mix in vanilla. Stir in flour and salt (2 additions).

Chill dough. Roll out 1/4 inch thick on floured board. Cut with cookie cutters. Bake in a 350-degree oven until barely brown (try 8 -10 minutes depending on oven).

I use a butter cream frosting and a variety of sprinkles for decoration. Makes about 10 dozen cookies, depending on size of cutters.
