D.C. Public School Test Results

By washingtonpost.com staff
December 16, 1997

These pages provide school-by-school breakdowns of results of the Stanford 9 achievement tests administered by D.C. Public Schools in May 1997.

The Stanford 9, a national standardized test, is given for reading in grades 1-6, 8, 10 and 11, and for math in grades 3, 6, 8 and 10.

Students were rated in four levels: "below basic," lacking fundamental skills; "basic," with skills below their grade level; "proficient," with solid academic performance for their grade level; and "advanced," performing above their grade level.

Not all the students at each school took the tests, and 4,000 incomplete tests also were not counted.

The results try to compare each school's enrollment figure with the number of students taking the tests, but the numbers aren't quite comparable -- enrollment figures are from October and test-taking figures are from May.

The column marked "free and reduced-price lunch eligible" shows how many students at a school come from low-income families.
