Comptroller
Former governor William Donald Schaefer handily won the Democratic nomination for one of the state's most powerful jobs. Larry M. Epstein, the GOP candidate, secured the nomination by a mere eight votes. The winner will succeed the late Louis L. Goldstein, who died in July after 40 years as comptroller.

Why should voters elect you?
"The State Comptroller's mandate is to superintend the fiscal affairs of Maryland. He must, therefore, have the competence to ensure that our tax system is being administered professionally and fairly. But, just as important, the comptroller must be an independent voice who will speak against the tax and spend policies that have existed in our state. As a CPA with 24 years of experience, I have the ability to cope with the complex fiscal problems that face the state. I am not part of the 'good old boy' network of state government."
What do you want voters to know about you?
