THE CANDIDATES   (VOTE FOR 2)

Michael Grasso
Republican
Age: 38
Residence: North Laurel.
  Married: Yes.
Children: Four.
Education: BS, University of Maryland; MS, American University; PhD, University of Maryland.
  Michael Grasso

Occupation/Employer: Computer scientist.

Elected Offices and Civic Activities: Howard County Board of Health; Laurel Quad-County Coordinating Council; Southern Howard Land Use Committee; Sons of Italy Howard County Chapter; Howard County Republican Club.

Why should voters elect you?
"My opponents have voted for high-density mixed-use developments that threaten to overcrowd our roads and schools, for high-priced football stadiums, against ethics legislation, to make school construction more expensive, and have one of the lowest business ratings in Annapolis. In contrast, the first bill I'll submit is one that will strengthen Howard's adequate public facilities ordinance to mandate that builders pay for adequate roads and schools to keep pace with taxes for working families, deny parole to violent criminals, and work for academic excellence in our schools."

What do you want voters to know about you?
"Howard's a great place to live, but it won't stay that way with current policies. I'll fight for responsible development, better schools and safer communities."

Hans Meeder
Republican
Age: 37
Residence: Columbia.
  Married: Yes.
Children: Four.
Education: BA, University of Maryland.
  Hans Meeder

Occupation/Employer: Self-employed consultant on education policy.

Elected Offices and Civic Activities: Education adviser in U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Department of Education; Kings Contrivance Village; Commission on Disability Issues.

Why should voters elect you?
"I will fight to protect our quality of life through: better school discipline so children can learn; stopping the overcrowding of roads and schools; reducing taxes for working families, seniors and small businesses. In contrast, Shane Pendergrass voted to create new high-density zoning areas that have crowded roads and schools, and Frank Turner voted against a modest tax cut for working families, but at the same time, voted to give 300 million taxpayer dollars to millionaire football team owners for their new stadiums. These actions are threatening to our quality of life. It's time for a better choice."

What do you want voters to know about you?
"With four children in the public schools, I am determined to strengthen education through stronger discipline, quality teaching and stopping the overcrowding of our classrooms."
