THE CANDIDATES (VOTE FOR 3)
|
William A. Bronrott
Democrat
Age: 43
Residence: Bethesda.
| |
Married: No.
Children: No.
|
Education: MA and BA, communications, University of Maryland.
|
|
|
Occupation/Employer: Public, government and media relations: president, Bronrott Communications.
Elected Offices and Civic Activities: East Bethesda Citizens Association; volunteer, Salvation Army; co-founder, Washington Regional Alcohol Program.
Why should voters elect you?
"Montgomery native Bill Bronrott has devoted his adult life to championing public policies protecting the health and safety of children and families in Maryland and nationwide. First as a congressional aide to Rep. Mike Barnes (1979-1987), then as a dedicated consumer and community advocate. Bill has fought for lifesaving federal and state laws, including the 21 drinking-age law, truck safety regulations and Maryland's motorcycle helmet and seat belt laws. He wants to continue in this tradition on education, traffic gridlock and Smart Growth, highway safety, crime and gun control, tobacco and health care, alcohol-drug abuse, and the environment."
What do you want voters to know about you?
"Helped launch MADD [Mothers Against Drunk Driving], Project Graduation to combat underage drinking, and county Thanksgiving Hunger Relief Drive. Fought to ban dangerous triple trailer trucks in Washington region."

French Caldwell
Republican
Age: 43
Residence: Bethesda.
| |
Married: Yes.
Children: Four.
|
Education: BS, oceanography, U.S. Naval Academy; MA, international studies, Old Dominion University.
|
|
|
Occupation/Employer: Business consulting, manager.
Elected Offices and Civic Activities: Scout leader, Little Falls Creek annual cleanup; Presidential inauguration Boy Scout support; Congressional Commission on Roles and Missions of Armed Forces.
Why should voters elect you?
"Congresswoman Connie Morella endorsed me, saying, 'French Caldwell is an independent voice for the people of District 16.' Former state senator Howie Denis said, 'French Caldwell brings the balance and integrity that's important in our delegation to Annapolis.' My independence redresses the balance with Baltimore-that means 'no more stadiums' and other grandiose public works paid for with our taxes. Secondly, I bring integrity and experience acquired from the time I started in the Navy as a midshipman at Annapolis to my current activities as a manager at Arthur Andersen working with government clients to cut costs and improve results."
What do you want voters to know about you?
"1998 Boy Scout District Award of Merit-chairman of the Scouting for Food campaign that raises over 10 tons of food annually in Bethesda-Chevy Chase."

Adam S. Feuerstein
Republican
Age: 27
Residence: Bethesda.
| |
Married: Yes.
Children: No.
|
Education: BS, Cornell University; master’s of public policy, John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University; JD, Harvard Law School.
|
|
|
Occupation/Employer: Lawyer.
Elected Offices and Civic Activities: Maryland Bar Association, Young Lawyers Division; Young Jewish Leadership.
Why should voters elect you?
"The current incumbents have not represented Montgomery County's interests. How else can you explain that Montgomery County receives only 34 cents for every dollar in taxes, while Baltimore City receives $2.41? These distributions are unfair and unreasonable. The worst part is that the money is distributed to Baltimore no matter how wisely it is used. Although Montgomery County has more students, Baltimore City schools have a larger administrative staff. So instead of subsidizing students, we subsidize the bureaucracy. I will push for new, fairer methods of distribution so our hard earned money is not wasted on the Baltimore City bureaucracy."
What do you want voters to know about you?
"My job will be to represent you and I will do everything in my power to respond to the needs and concerns of my constituents."

|
|
Occupation/Employer: Member, Maryland House of Delegates.
Elected Offices and Civic Activities: House of Delegates; Maryland Executive Branch.
Why should voters elect you?
"I have a reputation for accessibility, fairness, effectiveness, and a record of hard work, reasonable and solid achievements. I have shaped health care legislation that has protected patients, and required HMOs and health plans to be more responsive to consumers. Working with my colleagues, Montgomery County elected officials, business and education, we succeeded in bringing Montgomery County over $140 million for critical school needs, scholarships for students entering scientific and technical programs, significant income and sales tax cuts, and tax relief for small home-based businesses (a bill which I sponsored). We improved our environment and helped curb road rage."

"I will build on my record of achievement, emphasizing education, environmentally sensitive economic development, and responsible triple-A rated budgeting. In House leadership, I will continue to forge alliances to advance Montgomery's priorities: schools, libraries, support for increasing high-tech jobs, control of sprawl development. Record for schools, including B-CC reconstruction, Metro, Glen Echo and other county projects underline the success of this approach. I will extend my successful initiatives, including privacy protections, domestic violence and child abuse protections, increased public and private support for the university and Montgomery College, higher academic and school management standards, and early childhood education."
What do you want voters to know about you?
