U.S. House, District 5
Maryland will send eight representatives to the 106th Congress for two-year terms. The boundaries of the congressional districts are determined by the state legislature. Seven of them are in or near the Washington region. Both Republican and Democratic candidates will be on the ballots in all those districts. The challengers face well-entrenched incumbents.

Why should voters elect you?
"I believe I have been an effective leader in Washington and Maryland for Maryland's 5th Congressional District. In Congress, I have worked hard to balance the federal budget, fight for federal employees' pay and benefits, put nearly 300 new community police officers on the streets of the 5th District, clean up and protect the Chesapeake Bay, strengthen the economy of Maryland with new business and government infrastructure investment, block the proposed closure of NASA Goddard Space Flight Center and protect the military installations of Southern Maryland which are vital to the region's economy. These accomplishments help every family in the 5th District."
What do you want voters to know about you?
"I am honored to serve the people of Maryland in Congress, and I believe I have listened to them and been effective on their behalf."

Occupation/Employer: Attorney, Shulman, Rogers, Gandal, Pordy and Ecker.
Elected Offices and Civic Activities: Prince George’s Attorney; Metro Board, Washington Suburban Transit Commission; Maryland Coalition for Tax Reform; Queen Anne and Holy Trinity school boards; Section of Young Lawyers; Maryland Association of County Civil Attorneys; Elder in the Presbyterian Church; President of Bryce Resort.
Why should voters elect you?
"For 30 years in Maryland, I have worked as a public official and private citizen to resolve public issues. I have stood up for the rights of taxpayers against high taxes and the excesses of government regulation. My positions on lower taxes, less government regulation and more personal responsibility represent the majority view in the 5th District. As independent business owners, my wife and I know the crushing load of excessive government regulation. We also know that turning to government to solve all of our problems lessens personal accountability and increases our already high tax burden."
What do you want voters to know about you?
"I have always been a mainstream Republican who believes in less government, lower taxes, minimal government regulation and maximum personal responsibility."
